About The Position

Transportation Services Representative 1 (Limited Duration) at the Oregon Department of Transportation, Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV), Field Services Group / East Region in Baker City. In this role, you will assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles, and issuing permits and license plates. You will also administer knowledge, skill, and vision tests to potential drivers, ensure correct fees are collected, provide information about regulations and policies, and administer behind-the-wheel drive tests. This is a limited duration appointment expected to end six months from the date of hire, with the potential to become permanent.

Requirements

  • Two years of public contact/customer service experience involving dealing with the public in person or by phone.
  • Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
  • Three months experience collecting money and making change.
  • Completion of an associate's degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.
  • Must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Help the public register vehicles and apply for permits.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while following privacy laws.
  • Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions.
  • Produce photo licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
  • Administer, correct, and explain driver license tests.
  • Conduct and interpret results of driver vision tests.
  • Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.
  • Prepare daily bank deposits and count inventory.
  • Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.
