About The Position
Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of travelers across various transportation sectors. This position is located within the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). TSOs are responsible for providing security and protection for air travelers, airports, and aircraft in a courteous and professional manner. Their duties extend beyond just airport security; they may also be involved in securing high-profile events and important figures, ensuring that all aspects of transportation systems are safeguarded against potential threats. As a TSO, you will operate various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers. You will also be responsible for controlling terminal entry and exit points, interacting with the public to provide directions and respond to inquiries, and maintaining focus in a high-stress environment filled with noise and distractions. The role also involves physical demands, including the ability to lift and carry bags weighing up to 50 pounds, walk long distances, and stand for extended periods.
