About The Position

Amentum, a global leader in critical mission support, engineering, technology, and national security solutions, is seeking a Transportation Rigger to support a government contract based in Jacksonville, Florida at Mayport. The position performs duties described in the Service Contract Act Service Order Transportation Rigger and may also perform duties of other classifications with an equal or lower pay rate. The rigger is responsible for assembling rigging gear to lift and move equipment or material, selecting appropriate gear based on load weight and size, attaching pulleys and blocks to overhead structures, and securing loads with grappling devices to crane hooks. They direct crane operators using hand signals or radio communications to ensure safety during hoisting and moving loads. Additionally, the rigger sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches, and directs workers involved in hoisting machinery and equipment onto ships. The role involves handling, installing, positioning, and moving equipment and materials, controlling heavy equipment movement in confined spaces, and dismantling and storing rigging equipment after use. Riggers are also responsible for cleaning, inspecting, and testing rigging gear to ensure safety and reliability according to industry standards and the NAVFAC P-307 manual, and for maneuvering suspended loads using multi-point suspension techniques. Marginal functions include operating a forklift and driving heavy trucks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years as Rigger
  • Familiarity with the applicable requirements of NAVFAC P-307
  • Rigger Certification
  • Class A Commercial Driver License
  • Forklift Operator Certification
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties described in the Service Contract Act Service Order Transportation Rigger
  • May perform duties of other classifications that have a pay rate equal to or lower than the employee’s current rate
  • Assembles rigging gear to lift and move equipment or material
  • Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, and ceilings with bolts and clamps
  • Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, slings, ropes and chains to crane hook
  • Gives directions, using hand signals or radio communications, to the crane operator engaged in hoisting and moving loads in order to ensure the safety of workers and the material handled
  • Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches
  • Directs workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment on board and into ships
  • Uses hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving equipment and materials
  • Attaches loads to rigging gear to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools
  • Controls movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces
  • Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use
  • Signal or verbally direct crane operators engaged in hoisting and moving loads on order to ensure the safety of workers and equipment
  • Cleans, inspects, and tests rigging gear to ensure safety and reliability in accordance with industry standards and the NAVFAC P-307, WEIGHT HANDLING PROGRAM MANAGEMENT manual
  • Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and / or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques
