About The Position

Provides safe, timely, and professional non-emergency transportation for TAN Healthcare patients to approved medical and support service appointments. Ensures compliance with TAN Healthcare policies, HRSA/FQHC operational standards, HIPAA requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring strict adherence to vehicle safety standards, professional conduct, and patient confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • Minimum two (2) years of documented U.S. driving experience.
  • Ability to successfully complete Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.
  • Ability to pass background check and Drug-Free Workplace screening.
  • Knowledge of local service area preferred.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to safely operate a large passenger van.
  • Ability to perform roadside assistance tasks such as changing a tire on a large van.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Ability to assist patients with mobility needs, including light lifting and securing mobility equipment.
  • Ability to safely respond in emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual or ASL skills preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport medically stable patients to and from scheduled medical and support service appointments.
  • Review daily route schedule and arrive at all pickup locations on time.
  • Conduct and document required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Ensure vehicle cleanliness and verify required safety and emergency equipment is present and operational at all times.
  • Assist patients with basic mobility needs (including entering/exiting vehicle and securing mobility devices) while maintaining safety and dignity.
  • Safely secure wheelchairs and other mobility equipment according to safety standards.
  • Immediately report accidents, incidents, injuries, mechanical concerns, traffic citations, and safety hazards in accordance with TAN Healthcare policy.
  • Submit accurate daily trip logs, mileage reports, incident documentation, no-shows, and cancellations.
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with patients, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Coordinate all scheduling adjustments through the Transportation Coordinator; drivers are not authorized to independently modify routes.
  • Comply with all HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
  • Adhere to Texas Department of Public Safety laws, TAN Healthcare fleet policies, and defensive driving standards.
  • Follow all cell phone usage policies (hands-free only; no texting or handheld use while driving).
  • Participate in required safety, compliance, and emergency preparedness training.
  • Represent TAN Healthcare professionally in the community at all times.
