About The Position

The Roadway Asset Management section, within the Materials & Research Division, is looking for a dedicated team member who would enjoy independent and fair-weather traveling to many areas within Nebraska. The selected applicant would be required to plan daily and weekly routes with occasional overnight stays in order to drive to the predetermined areas. This job requires the ability to visually verify and update specific road inventory details within short roadway segments. These areas are in both rural and urban areas having low and high volume traffic. The tasks will require driving, observation, estimating, measuring, counting, and/or converting information into specified data codes. Once the selected applicant becomes familiar with the core duties, they will also assist other units within the section, allowing for the opportunity to learn multiple roadway inventory processes. The applicant would perform technical work in gathering, compiling, interpreting, and analyzing essential data related to transportation planning. Performing related field work is required. Transportation Planner I starting pay: $20.474 per hour Transportation Planner II starting pay: $23.661 per hour

Requirements

  • Transportation Planner I: Associate’s degree in urban and regional planning, transportation planning, engineering technology, business, data science, physical sciences, geographic information systems, or a related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Transportation Planner II: Bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning, transportation planning, engineering technology, business, data science, physical sciences, geographic information systems, or a related field, plus one year of related experience. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record, or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
  • Ability to analyze computer programs and understand applications of these programs as they relate to transportation planning; communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • This position requires traveling in fair weather within the State while collecting roadway information and preparing data to submit annually to the Federal Highway Administration’s Highway Performance Monitoring System.
  • Perform edits and updates within a digital spreadsheet with a reliable file management technique.
  • Perform collection of county inventory; Lane Mile Reporting that includes training with OnBase systems and collecting information on municipal systems
  • Prepare data to be used in public hearings

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
