About The Position

The City of Oakland is seeking a Transportation Planner I to join the Department of Transportation (OakDOT). This role involves contributing to the planning, development, and implementation of transportation projects that promote equity, accessibility, and sustainability within the diverse community of Oakland. The ideal candidate will engage with community members, manage multiple projects, and support various teams focused on transportation planning, funding strategies, and mobility management.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in transportation, urban planning, public policy or administration, geography, business, economics or a related field
  • No prior experience required

  • Ability to work creatively within governmental processes

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and implementing transportation studies, programs, and projects
  • Collecting, compiling, and analyzing data to support transportation planning or projects
  • Supporting community outreach for capital projects, including tabling and surveying at community events
  • Assisting in the preparation of grant applications, including drafting narratives, charts, and graphs to explain transportation challenges and solutions
  • Communicating and developing relationships with outside stakeholders including Oakland residents, community-based organizations, and consultants
