About The Position

The Transportation Operations Lead Person is responsible for assisting the Transportation Operations management team in overseeing daily activities related to the planning and execution of transportation strategies. This role focuses on efficiently managing outbound delivery and backhaul pickup plans, ensuring compliance with regulations, and optimizing the assignment of transportation orders to drivers to meet service commitments.

Requirements

• At least 20 years old.
• Valid driver's license and authorization to drive a company vehicle.
• At least one year of experience in distribution, transportation, or an analytical field.
• Currently employed as a Publix Distribution associate or have one year of supervisory experience in a distribution or equivalent environment.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Knowledge of software, systems, and applications used in Transportation Operations.
• Knowledge of driver activities, functions, and processes.
• Knowledge of setting up operations schedules and Federal DOT regulations.
• Knowledge of United States geography and Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of Publix Transportation environment and operations.
• Knowledge of warehouse shipping operations and their impact on outbound transportation.
• Ability to handle stressful situations professionally and provide excellent customer service.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, analytical, negotiation, and leadership skills.
• Ability to multitask, work independently, train users, and maintain confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

• Current Publix Distribution associate.
• Associate's Degree in Business or Transportation related field.
• Minimum of two years of experience in transportation operations.
• More than two years of supervisory experience in a transportation equivalent environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Transportation Operations management team in directing day-to-day activities.
• Execute outbound delivery and backhaul pickup plans efficiently.
• Identify daily staffing needs and dynamically assign labor and equipment.
• Maximize on-time delivery performance and minimize operational costs.
• Balance drivers' workdays and ensure compliance with transportation hours of service regulations.
• Adjust plans in response to traffic conditions, weather, labor, and workload fluctuations.
• Interact directly with truck drivers and various operational teams, serving as a liaison with warehousing, manufacturing, and retail.
