About The Position

The Transportation Onboarding and Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing and managing the hiring, safety, training, and retention programs for the WS/FCS Transportation Department. This role ensures compliance with safety standards and regulations while providing training and support for school bus drivers and other transportation personnel. The Coordinator will also oversee incident documentation, conduct safety meetings, and collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance safety and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in business/management or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements within 6 months of hire.
  • Working knowledge of transportation operations, DOT safety, and ADA compliance.
  • Experience developing and implementing safety training programs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication skills for preparing reports and presentations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and work independently or in a group.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with transit systems and operations.
  • Knowledge of FTA/DOT regulations regarding Transit Operations.
  • Skill in building PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage hiring, safety, training, and retention programs for the Transportation Department.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state safety standards and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain a safety training program for new and current transportation personnel.
  • Plan and execute large training and retention events for the Transportation Department.
  • Notify appropriate personnel of incidents and accidents; monitor and direct emergency situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to incidents and personnel.
  • Assist with general administration duties, including generating reports and processing background checks.
  • Manage application logs and coordinate interviews for candidates.
  • Follow up with applicants to encourage completion of pre-hire requirements.
  • Coordinate new hire packets and conduct Transportation Orientation.
  • Build sustainable relationships with customers and team members.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints from the public.
  • Perform regular field observations to ensure compliance with policies and laws.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, and memoranda regarding operations and performance.
  • Provide direction and oversight to transit personnel and contractors for safety programs.
  • Conduct new hire, post-accident, and refresher training sessions.
  • Advise Transportation Directors on safety matters and compliance recommendations.
  • Analyze safety incidents and prepare related reports.
  • Plan logistics for special events using transportation buses.
  • Collaborate with safety and security teams for emergency preparedness.
