About The Position

The Transportation Manager is responsible for the onboarding, development, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of drivers and helpers at the Harrisonburg, VA site. This role emphasizes building positive relationships with frontline employees and involves spending significant time in the field to support and guide staff. The position operates Monday to Friday, starting at 7:00 AM, overseeing approximately 15 drivers.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree or High School Diploma with two years of relevant work experience.
• Successful completion of the WM Route Manager Trainee program.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Onboard new frontline employees by providing tools, instruction, and feedback for successful daily duties.
• Meet with new frontline employees daily to ensure consistent communication and support during onboarding.
• Provide timely and consistent touchpoints with frontline employees to enhance performance.
• Regularly review best practices to improve daily operations and understand employee career goals.
• Identify and address improvement opportunities through coaching conversations with frontline employees.
• Lead by example to ensure safety practices are prioritized among employees.
• Conduct Root Cause Investigations for injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining.
• Document and maintain records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation.
• Review and audit documentation related to route operations daily, following up where appropriate.
• Visit customers and customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues.
