About The Position

The Transportation Manager serves as principal advisor to the Project Manager in matters related to monitoring, controlling, and coordinating movement of personnel, equipment, and cargo by air, rail, highway, and water. This role leads a team of approximately 90 teammates to safely and compliantly accomplish the Army’s mission via transportation motor pool and dispatching, material movement shipments, rail and yard operations, terminal warehouse operations Freight Services of the division and ensures compliance with applicable regulations. The Transportation Manager determines the most efficient mode of transport that accomplishes AFO's mission requirements at Ft. Sill, as well as creating superior client experience. Requirements

  • Documented seven (7) years of accomplished leadership delivering results in service-oriented environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Proficiency in business systems (e.g., Army systems or comparable).
  • Proficiency in MS Office software (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
  • U.S. citizen.
  • Ability to receive a favorable Secret Clearance, obtain and maintain a CAC.
  • Applicant must possess a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued driver’s license.
  • Physical requirements include (but are not limited to the ability to lift 40lb, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, bending, squatting, and reaching.

Responsibilities

  • Commitment to achieving 100% mission readiness standards in support of the Army and the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC) at Fort Sill, ensuring all transportation operations align with contract performance metrics.

  • Administers, participates in, and monitors the performance of all subordinates involved in the procurement of common carrier and other transportation services by rail, motor, air, and miscellaneous means.
  • Directs the flow of work; observes performance and resolves difficulties pertaining to inadequate response to movement requirements and transportation requests.
  • Maintains close liaison with the installation units and commercial carriers serving the activity.
  • Forecasts requirements for specialized training courses, job related meetings and conferences and schedules attendance.
  • Ensures the preparation of all documentation and obtain the Branch Chief’s or COR’s approval/signature prior to furnishing any services that obligate Government funds. Coordinate and verify contents of documents of services performed by commercial vendors are correct.
  • Ensures compliance with all transportation laws and regulations. Renders technical assistance on material movements based on a technical knowledge of commercial classifications guides, tariffs, demurrage rules, equipment registers and carrier rating directories.
  • Is responsible for the vehicle maintenance and lease programs. Ensures that vehicles and equipment report to the TMP and/or maintenance for inspection and repair.
  • Furnishes statistical information on prospective volume traffic with possibility of lower freight rates by interested carriers.
  • Exercises management control over transportation and movement documents, in-transit data documents and movement reports.
  • Assures conformity with packing, crating, marking and storage provisions, weight limitations and carrier tariff requirements.
  • Advises on matters pertaining to movement of traffic including outsize and hazardous cargo.
  • Pursues recommendations for improvements to the overall operation and research cost reduction measures without degradation of services to the customer.
