GENERAL SUMMARY The Transportation Manager oversees the efficient and effective transportation, storage, and distribution of goods. This role is critical to ensuring that the right products are delivered to the right location on time and at a good cost. The Transportation Manager will manage a team of logistics personnel, coordinate with suppliers, manage DOT requirements of company CDL drivers, and work closely with other departments to optimize supply chain operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of relevant logistics experience in a related industry
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in supervision of direct reports
  • An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered.
  • Logistics and supply chain management principles.
  • Strong understanding of logistics and inventory management software.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement logistics strategies and plans.
  • Optimize transportation routes and warehouse layouts to minimize costs and improve efficiency.
  • Monitor and forecast logistics costs and prepare budgets.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the logistics team.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of products.
  • Negotiate contracts and rates with suppliers, carriers, and third-party logistics providers.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability and quality of service.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and address any issues.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations regarding transportation and storage.
  • Develop and implement safety procedures to protect employees and goods.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance and safety standards are met.
  • Implement and maintain logistics software systems to streamline operations.
  • Ensure all transportation operations adhere to DOT regulations and standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
  • Ensure all drivers have the necessary certifications and licenses.
  • Maintain accurate records of driver qualifications, training, and certifications.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to DOT and other regulatory bodies.
  • Manage electronic logging devices (ELDs) and ensure compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance and inspection programs.
  • Ensure vehicles meet safety and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with the fleet management team to schedule repairs and maintenance.
  • Work with insurance providers to manage claims and coverage.
  • Other duties as assigned
