This position is located in Solid Waste. This classification is responsible for assisting in the construction, repair, maintenance of City roadways. This position is subject to be included in the off-hours, on-call response service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. Performs repairs and maintenance operations on city rights-of-way or property; typical work will consist of: Litter and illegal dumping removal. Provides courteous and professional customer service when interacting with residents, businesses, and the public. Assists with the distribution, placement, retrieval, and basic maintenance of solid waste containers (carts/cans); reports damaged, missing, or malfunctioning containers as needed. Receives work assignments, service requests, and priorities from the Administrative Coordinator. Clears debris from roadways Removes dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way Operates equipment such as but not limited to chainsaws, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, chipper, mowers, tractors, etc. Typical work will consist of shoveling asphalt or gravel to patch potholes Flags traffic at construction and maintenance projects Performs roadside tree and vegetation control and emergency hazard response Performs and assist with inclement weather removal within the roadway and rights-of-way Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards Operates a city vehicle and or equipment; conducts pre- and post-trip inspections including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, and cleanliness of assigned vehicle. Conducts general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition. Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: initiates orders materials and equipment needed for each job; conducts routine safety inspections on equipment; advises supervisor of needed repairs. Ensures compliance with all applicable code, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment. Performs other related duties as required.
