About The Position

This position will serve as a Project Engineer on small size road or bridge construction projects of relatively low complexity, and/or an inspector on larger more complex construction projects. This position will be the primary source of technical knowledge for project staff, providing guidance, technical assistance, direction, and solutions to construction and/or engineering related issues. The incumbent will be charged with directing and monitoring the complete and accurate documentation of the construction process, ensuring that all files are current and all progress estimates are accurate. As an inspector this position will be required to instruct and mentor lower-level technicians in basic plan reading, proper construction inspection methods, and testing methods for materials used in highway and bridge construction. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Three (3) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
  • Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.
  • Applicants who possess an associate's degree in engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the required experience.
  • Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
  • The selected candidate will be required to pass the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Certifications (Soils, Concrete and Hot Mix Asphalt must be obtained within the probationary period).
  • Must be available and willing to accept assignments in District 6 (Allegany, Garrett, Washington counties)
  • Must be available and willing to work shift work, nights, overtime or weekends as necessary.
