About The Position

STV is a nationally recognized engineering, architectural, planning, and program/construction management firm. With a strong presence in the transportation sector, our Charlotte office is seeking a motivated entry-level engineer to join our Traffic Engineering Group, supporting projects across STV's South Region. Position Overview As an Entry-Level Traffic Engineer, you will work alongside a team of experienced engineers and project managers, contributing to the planning, analysis, and design of traffic operations and transportation infrastructure projects. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop technical expertise in traffic engineering while supporting high-profile roadway, intersection, and corridor improvement projects for state DOTs, municipalities, and regional agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (with a concentration in Transportation/Traffic preferred).
  • 0–2 years of relevant traffic or transportation engineering experience (internship or co-op experience highly valued).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Familiarity with traffic engineering concepts and design standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to traffic analysis and CAD software preferred (training will be provided).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with traffic engineering studies, including capacity analysis, traffic signal warrant studies, safety analyses, and simulation modeling.
  • Support the preparation of traffic signal designs, signing and pavement marking plans, traffic control plans, and ITS/fiber interconnect designs in accordance with NCDOT, SCDOT, TDOT, MUTCD, and local agency standards.
  • Perform traffic data analysis and technical calculations using software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, SIDRA, VISSIM, and TransModeler.
  • Prepare technical reports, exhibits, spreadsheets, and presentations for client review and public meetings.
  • Provide CAD/plan production support for traffic engineering projects, including signal plans, ITS layouts, and roadway coordination.
  • Collaborate closely with roadway, structures, hydraulics, and planning teams to integrate traffic engineering into broader transportation projects.
  • Participate in field reviews, data collection, and construction support activities.
