DKS Associates is currently hiring a Transportation Engineering/Planning Assistant who will work closely with mid- and senior-level team members on a variety of planning and traffic engineering projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or greater) in Civil Engineering, Transportation, Urban Planning, or similar field, with an understanding of traffic flow theory and forecasting
  • Coursework in Transportation and Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, GIS, Environmental Studies, Statistics, or Travel Demand Modeling
  • Ability to work in a high-performing team, including strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Ability to program and/or implement custom scripts. Skills in R, Python, VBA, or Java are desired
  • EIT certificate preferred, or the ability to obtain your EIT certification if hired
  • Ability/Interest in obtaining your PE and/or AICP in the future
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Software experience desired, but not required; AGI lighting analysis software, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, Synchro, and Visum/Vistro/Vissim

Responsibilities

  • Gaining experience working on a variety of transportation planning and traffic engineering design projects under the guidance of expert team members
  • Conducting technical transportation analysis; including traffic operational analysis using Synchro, Vissim, and other traffic and modeling software to analyze the performance or impacts between various travel modes and vehicle types (cars, pedestrians, bikes, e-scooters, buses, light rail, trucks, etc.)
  • Developing Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for roadway lighting, permanent signing and pavement markings, traffic signals, signal interconnect/fiber optic communications, and temporary traffic control plans
  • Going out in the field to verify the condition of existing traffic systems (Signing, Lighting, Signals, etc.) and observe traffic operations
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams on a variety of complex corridor studies, transit operations, area plans, system plans, and other technical transportation projects.
  • Communicating technical findings to project managers and group managers
  • Working on significant projects across the west coast and in your own community
