About The Position
The Transportation Engineering Associate I position at the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) involves assisting with the monitoring of construction projects to ensure compliance with project-specific plans, SCDOT Standard Specifications for Highway Construction, and SCDOT Standard Drawings for Road Construction. The role requires performing project inspection duties, which include maintaining daily field notes, certifying contractor adherence to SCDOT specifications and standards, and ensuring effective communication between contractors and SCDOT personnel. The associate will also assist in monitoring project quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) and erosion control, adhering to specific SCDOT certifications and CEPSCI certification requirements. In addition to monitoring construction activities, the associate will be responsible for overseeing traffic control measures to ensure compliance with approved plans or standard drawings. The role includes managing contract maintenance projects, following the same standards and specifications as standard construction projects. The associate will also assist with project closeout duties as required by supervisors or dictated by contract requirements. Coordination with project engineers and inspectors is essential to ensure that inspection staff is present on construction sites at all times. The position also involves project management duties, such as acting as a liaison for utilities and contractors, conducting initial site inspections to identify potential conflicts, ensuring proper documentation is obtained from utilities, and monitoring the progress of utility relocations. The associate will perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the transportation projects in Charleston County, SC.
