Requirements

• High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
• Transportation Engineer Tech I: No experience required.
• Transportation Engineer Tech II: 2 years of drafting, design, and plan preparation experience.
• Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

• Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic design work.
• Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities.
• Prepares field notes.
• Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies, and right-of-way maps.
• Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
• Uses automated programs, interactive graphics, and the Design and Construction Information System.
• Works on reproduction of plans.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
• Assists in on-the-job training of less experienced technicians.
• Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities.
• Develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.
• Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors.
• Writes general notes, specifications, and provisions.
