The role of a Civil Engineer is to work as a team member on small and large Transportation projects. The Civil Engineer, EIT will work under direct supervision of a Senior Project Engineer to develop skills in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering systems or products for a project. A Civil Engineer performs a variety of tasks which may include assisting with typical projects including development of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, engineering reports and studies for infrastructure projects, including transportation, drainage, and CAD production.

Responsibilities

• Select and apply appropriate design criteria to perform minor, major, and complex roadway/highway transportation design assignments.
• Perform basic engineering calculations.
• Assist in the preparation of engineering project documents, pertaining to specific projects.
• Prepare high quality contract documents (plans, specifications, and estimates) for the construction of roadway/drainage projects.
• Prepare site/engineering assessments, facilitate permit sketches and permitting processes.
• Recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
• Utilize relevant software programs to prepare exhibits and complex working drawings.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned, and able to be cross trained for related roadway disciplines including drainage, signing, pavement markings, lighting, and signalization design.
