Under the general direction of the Branch Chief, Maintenance Design, Office of Maintenance Engineering, the incumbent is responsible for performing a wide range of transportation engineering duties. These duties include, but are not limited to, the delivery of Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E) packages for State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP), Minor Program, and Major Maintenance (HM) projects such as Traffic Safety, Transportation Management System (TMS), Pavement, Bridge, and Culvert projects. The incumbent develops and prepares technical documents, including Project Initiation Reports (PIR), Project Reports (PR), and other written reports and correspondence; investigates safety or operational problems; and conducts studies of alternative solutions. This position also involves ensuring the completeness and accuracy of documents, as well as making changes or revisions as necessary to maintain compliance with design policies and requirements. The incumbent applies computer software applications and knowledge of Caltrans standards, manuals, guidelines, policies, and directives in the execution of these duties. Field trips for roadway inspection and project review are necessary in the development of contract Plans, Specifications and Estimates. Possession of a valid California drivers license is required. California Professional Engineering license (Civil) is required for Range D.
