About The Position

Under direction of the Area Senior Construction Engineer (a Senior Transportation Engineer), incumbent will perform a wide variety of difficult and complex transportation engineering work. Serves as the licensed professional resident engineer on construction projects. Will assign work, give instructions, make decisions on difficult engineering and administrative problems in connection with directing work on various transportation projects. Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Requirements

Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Knowledge of: Contract administration paperwork and documentation.
Knowledge of: Caltrans Construction Manual, Standard Specifications and Special Provisions.
Knowledge of: Highway and bridge construction, design engineering and cost estimating.
Ability to: Administer construction contracts. Has knowledge of Caltrans Plans and Specifications, and ability to interpret and enforce contract documents, and monitor expenses.
Ability to: Serve as a lead worker, coordinate/assign work and provide direction to staff.
Ability to: Communicate with Contractors to provide direction and resolve conflicts.
Ability to: Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships and be an effective team member.
Ability to: Obtain or Possess a CA Professional Engineer License (If not currently licensed, state if examinations have been started, or expected date to begin examinations)
