About The Position

The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Structures and Engineering Services (SES), Office of Special Funded Projects and Structure Local Assistance (OSFP&SLA) Branch is recruiting to fill a Transportation Engineer (TE) (Civil), position is located in Sacramento. Under the direction of a Senior Bridge Engineer, in the Office of Special Funded Projects and Structure Local Assistance, within the Structures and Engineering Services, the TE (Civil) is responsible for performing structural review of consultant-designed structures and assisting senior Liaison Engineers in general project duties. Performs reviews of structure-related documents prepared by consultants through all project phases to assure structural adequacy, constructibility and conformance to Caltrans policies and procedures. Reviews consist of making accurate and timely assessments of consultant products, providing necessary comments to ensure conformance to Caltrans standards, and communicating the results to Liaison Engineers in a timely manner. Assists in matters pertaining to the Federal Highway Bridge Program (HBP) and other federal programs.

Requirements

  • A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. Failure to submit a Statement of Qualifications will disqualify candidates from the hiring process.
  • Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.
  • The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. SOQ must be typed and no more than 1 page, single-spaced, using 12-point font. Resumes do not take the place of the SOQ.
  • Describe your education, experience, and training in designing transportation structures. Show knowledge of transportation structure design policies, procedures, and technical guidance.
  • Describe your experience, whether in school or your profession, in cooperating and collaborating with others.
  • Describe your education, experience, and training in analyzing structures.
  • Elaborate on a project or assignment that was particularly challenging and explain how you overcame those challenges.
  • Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.   • Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification.
  • Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam.
