About The Position

The Transportation Engineer 9-12 - Bridge Inspector position is part of the Region Bridge Unit, responsible for conducting field inspections of bridges and culverts, preparing inspection reports, and participating in various bridge-related projects and quality assurance activities. The role requires responding to emergencies and collaborating with other engineers and maintenance workers to ensure the safety and integrity of transportation infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Transportation Engineer 9: No specific experience required.
  • Transportation Engineer 10: One year of professional engineering experience in transportation systems equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.
  • Transportation Engineer P11: Two years of professional engineering experience in transportation systems, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.
  • Transportation Engineer 12: Three years of professional engineering experience in transportation systems, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a registered professional engineer license in Michigan or another state with reciprocity.
  • Status as a Qualified Team Leader (QTL) in bridge inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections of in-service bridges and culverts.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports in conjunction with Bridge Unit Engineers/Management.
  • Participate in bridge scoping and Call for Projects.
  • Engage in Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) activities.
  • Manage Bridge Network Asset Management tasks.
  • Respond to emergencies as required.
