About The Position

Provide a safe, reliable and respectful transportation for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to and from private homes, residential programs, day programs, community activities, employment sites and other destinations.

Requirements

  • Over 21 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Qualify for PACE Certification
  • No disqualifying events on criminal background check.
  • No disqualifying events on Health Care Workers Registry
  • Pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Pass training modules and OJT program approved by Illinois DHS
  • Ability to read, write and follow simple oral and written instructions
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds or more.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, push, pull, stand and walk as need
  • Achieve PACE certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Remain free of alcohol and/or illegal substance use while working; as determined by random testing
  • Become CPR/1st Aid certified and remain certified throughout employment

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a driver preferred

Responsibilities

  • Follow Established routes, schedules and transportation policies.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and exiting vehicles, including the use of lifts, ramps and securement systems as needed.
  • Ensure proper use of seat belts, wheelchair restraints, and other safety equipment
  • Provide courteous patient, and respectful interaction with all clients,
  • Maintain accurate logs of trips, mileage, fuel usage, and incidents.
  • Perform basic vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, caregivers, and program staff.
  • Check personal mailbox provided by supervisor for written updates, instructions and notices.
  • Respond accordingly to all written communications immediately.
  • Collect and/or delivery any mail as per instructions.
  • Inform the Transportation Manager of any maintenance needs, damage, or incidents involving the vehicle immediately or on a daily basis.
  • Work and cooperate with staff from other departments.
  • Provide written reports of any behavioral incidents, accidents, and/or injuries occurring while clients are in transport.
  • Attend transportation department staff meetings and or trainings as scheduled by Transportation Manager.
  • Must report any moving violations, tickets, DUI, etc. to the Transportation Manager immediately.
  • Attend in-service training as identified by DHS standards, agency and department policy and any other training deemed necessary by the Agency.
  • Staff will perform duties with regards to Park Lawn Health and Safety Policies, Procedures and Rules by following, but not limited to, proper lifting techniques, use of good body mechanics, behavior management, infection control, proper attire and general awareness of immediate surroundings.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
