About The Position

The Transportation Dispatcher is a part-time role responsible for managing the transportation of patients, specimens, and equipment within Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center. This position involves direct interaction with patients and visitors, ensuring their needs are met in a compassionate and efficient manner. The dispatcher will utilize various communication and electronic systems to log requests and coordinate transport services, adhering to safety and confidentiality protocols.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or GED
• At least 1 year of experience in a hospital environment or customer service
• Strong knowledge of phone and computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite and I-pod handheld devices.

Nice To Haves

• Diploma from a vocational or technical program
• Previous transporter or call center experience
• Experience with EPIC software

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients and visitors at the hospital and clinics.
• Communicate with patients regarding their care related to transport functions.
• Answer telephone calls within 3 rings, identifying self and department.
• Log requests for Environmental Services, Linen, and Patient Transport departments.
• Enter requests into the EPIC electronic medical record system appropriately.
• Use I-Pod/Transport system for hand-off communication.
• Follow up with hospital staff regarding delay times and request updates.
• Safely transport patients using beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and IV poles.
• Demonstrate safe patient handling and adhere to transport protocols.
• Verify patient identification using two hospital-approved identifiers.
• Clean and disinfect transport equipment before and after each use.
• Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
