About The Position

The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Transportation Construction Inspector who will undertake a range of technical responsibilities related to the inspection of materials and workmanship on highway construction projects within Engineering District 11-0. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will be responsible for inspecting all aspects of transportation construction activities. Your duties will include assisting in the verification of grades, elevations, and the layout of structures and roadways in collaboration with contractors and surveyors. You will also oversee the proper placement of various materials, including cement concrete, bituminous concrete, drainage components, and other relevant materials. Additionally, you will conduct compaction testing using visual non-movement methods to assess the integrity of sub-surface strata, soils, and aggregates. Engaging with department personnel, as well as representatives from federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public, will be essential to ensure the smooth administration of projects. Furthermore, you will be tasked with completing master diary entries, performing mathematical calculations, estimating item quantities and project costs, and managing all necessary project documentation, whether manually or electronically. Your role will also involve assisting in the resolution of any field issues that may arise during the construction process.

Requirements

Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
One year as an Engineering Technician(Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1(Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
You must meet the PA residency requirement.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities
