About The Position

The Transportation Assistant role within the Department of Defense involves managing and facilitating travel arrangements for military personnel. This position is crucial for ensuring that individuals traveling on Permanent Change of Station (PCS) and Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) orders receive the necessary support and guidance regarding their transportation entitlements and requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date is subject to provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

  • Experience with automated travel systems.
  • Knowledge of travel regulations and entitlements.

Responsibilities

  • Review applicant's orders to determine entitlements and official authorization to travel.
  • Advise customers on transportation entitlements, baggage allowances, special conveyance restrictions, travel responsibilities, and customer restrictions.
  • Arrange official transportation (air and ground) for the movement of individuals traveling on PCS and TAD orders or large groups.
  • Determine mode, routing, and costs of domestic and overseas transportation to meet satisfactory travel requirements of the military mission.
  • Submit approved orders to Commercial Travel Office (CTO) for issuance of airline tickets, invoices/endorsements, and other travel documents.
  • Provide passport and visa services to applicants in accordance with the Department of State's Passport Agent's Manual, DoD guidelines, and the DoD Foreign Clearance Guide (FCG).
