The Department of Public Works - Transportation Division is primarily responsible for administering, planning, designing, and maintaining the County Maintained Road System which includes 2,500 miles of roadways. Routine maintenance activities of the Department include patching and crack filling of approximately 7,000 lane miles of asphalt pavement; grading of 421 miles of unpaved roads; shoulder maintenance; plowing snow on approximately 450 miles of mountain roads; and traffic signal maintenance at 50 intersections. Capital improvement program projects of the Department include pavement resurfacing, roadway drainage, sidewalk and pedestrian safety, freeway interchange, railroad grade separation, and bridge replacement. Transportation Analyst I is the entry level of the series and performs moderately complex planning projects; local and regional transportation analysis; analyzes and recommends transportation measures; coordinates with engineers, planners, and surveyors in developing cost estimates; and acts as a liaison with other departments, local government, regional, state, and federal transportation agencies.
