About The Position

The Transportation Aide at a Skilled Nursing Facility is responsible for assisting with the safe and efficient transportation of residents within and outside of the facility. This role involves providing support during transport, ensuring residents' comfort and safety, and assisting with related administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain any and all necessary active and unencumbered certifications, degrees, or licenses in the necessary state, to the extent the position requires such certifications, degrees, or licenses.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and understandably write the English language.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination if the position requires.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a transportation or caregiving role, preferably in a healthcare or senior living setting, is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record may be required if transporting residents in facility vehicles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with residents and their families.
  • Basic knowledge of safety procedures and protocols related to transportation and resident care.
  • Ability to lift and assist residents and operate mobility aids and equipment.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with boarding and disembarking from transportation vehicles, including wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility aids.
  • Ensure residents are securely fastened and comfortable during transport.
  • Provide assistance during trips to medical appointments, therapy sessions, and other off-site activities.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure the safe transport of residents.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections of transportation vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Follow infection control and hygiene practices when handling residents and equipment.
  • Engage with residents to provide reassurance and companionship during transportation.
  • Address any immediate needs or concerns of residents during transit, such as comfort adjustments or assistance with personal items.
  • Maintain accurate records of transportation schedules, trips, and any incidents or issues encountered.
  • Report any vehicle maintenance needs or safety concerns.
  • Coordinate with facility staff to ensure timely and efficient scheduling of transportation services.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare providers to confirm transportation arrangements and address any special requirements.
  • Assist with the cleaning and maintenance of transportation vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure that vehicles are stocked with necessary supplies, such as medical and emergency equipment.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies or unexpected situations during transportation, including providing first aid if necessary.
  • Follow facility protocols for emergency situations and report incidents to the appropriate personnel.
