About The Position

The Transportation Aide at Hackensack Meridian Health plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transport of patients, equipment, and supplies within the hospital. This part-time position focuses on assisting nursing staff and providing compassionate care to patients during their transport, contributing to the overall mission of enhancing patient care and supporting healthcare operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher to various areas of the hospital as assigned.
• Makes daily rounds to ensure timely transport of patients.
• Transports patients efficiently, safely, and courteously.
• Prepares patients for transport according to nursing service procedures.
• Records each transport, including time left unit, destination, and time returned, using the Tele tracking system.
• Transports bodies to the morgue with care and respect for the deceased.
• Maintains vehicles in clean and good repair, inspecting and cleaning them as directed by the supervisor.
• Serves as a messenger to nursing units as requested.
• Returns vehicles and oxygen tanks to the appropriate locations after patient transport.
• Performs miscellaneous service duties as needed.
• Responds promptly to call lights and communicates patient needs to appropriate personnel.
• Reports any unusual conditions observed during transport.
• Assists patients out of bed as requested and demonstrates the ability to use lifting devices.
• Responds to Code Green with the appropriate vehicle.
• Provides competent care to patients, considering their individualized, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
