General Purpose of Job: The Transport Registered Nurse (RN) has strong critical thinking skills and is able to adapt to any given situation. The Transport RN will function as primary or secondary caregiver to ensure that each patient receives treatment that is in accordance with all Transport policies and procedures. The Transport RN is able to give a detailed report to Medical Control to ensure appropriate plan of care is ordered and carried out. The Transport RN will be able to function as part of a team, assuming the lead role, to ensure safety of patients and staff. The Transport RN is accountable to the Transport Medical Director, the Transport Director and the Transport Clinical Coordinator. The Transport RN operates within the framework of the Driscoll Children’s Hospital mission, vision and values. Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures The Transport RN will function as primary or secondary caregiver to ensure that each patient receives treatment that is in accordance with all Transport policies and procedures. Performs initial and ongoing focused assessments to identify actual, potential and critical changes in the patient’s condition and follows through with appropriate reporting and actions. Responsible for providing patient care according to department protocol, policies and procedures. Responsible for communication and documentation necessary for proper patient care. Is a highly motivated, well-organized individual and has demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Handles multiple tasks and is self-directed. Possesses efficient skills in respiratory management including intubation and ventilation, IV access, medication administration, code management, & pain management. Maintains professional composure, thinks clearly, quickly assesses and evaluates situations, organizes thoughts, and responds quickly in emergency and stressful situations and effectively coordinates transport duties. Communicates with Transport Coordinator any problems or questions pertaining to duties and policies. Completes special assignments and projects assigned by the Transport Coordinator. Attends regular safety and staff meetings. Shares responsibilities for ensuring readiness of and recording all DCH equipment and supplies in accordance with department policies. Possesses basic computer skills for work related tasks and education. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships and communicates clearly with general public, referring facility personnel and Transport department personnel. Is able to read maps accurately. Responsible for communication and documentation necessary for proper patient care. Responsible for communication and documentation necessary for Transport billing. Responsible for maintaining required number of continuing education hours. Speaks clearly and concisely over radio and telephone. Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines. Supervisory Responsibilities: Serves as a Preceptor/Mentor for new Transport Staff on Department orientation. Assists in skills check list completion and signs off on required skills check-off. Education and/or Experience: Associate’s degree from two-year College or Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university for Registered Nursing. Current RN license in the State of Texas. Has a minimum of three years experience in the NICU, PICU or Level I ED and/or previous pediatric/neonatal transport experience. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Currently Licensed in the state of Texas as a Registered Nurse. Maintains AHA cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification and is current upon hire. Maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification or obtained within 6 months of hire. Maintain Neonatal Resuscitation Provider certification or obtained within 6 months of hire. Maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification or obtained within 6 months of hire. Obtains and maintains national Certification in specialty within 1 year post completion of orientation. Obtains and maintains EMT-Basic certification (course provided by DCH) within 2 years of hire. Provides proof of personal automobile liability insurance upon hire. Provides proof of current Texas state driver’s license. Until all children are well. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from two-year College or Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university for Registered Nursing.
  • Current RN license in the State of Texas.
  • Has a minimum of three years experience in the NICU, PICU or Level I ED and/or previous pediatric/neonatal transport experience.
