UC Health is hiring a PRN transport paramedic to join our Mobile Care team! The transport paramedic will provide care for a diverse and multi-faceted patient population. They will work to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the appropriate level of patient care according to the approved scope of practice.

  • Engages in population appropriate communication.
  • Knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
  • Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
  • Interprets population related data and plans appropriately.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms.
  • Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
  • Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  • Provide high quality care to patients in the transport environment under the direction of the Program Medical Director and the referring and/or receiving Physician in accordance with policies, protocols and standards of care.
  • Autonomously evaluate critically ill or injured patients of all age groups (infant, pediatric through adult), provide therapeutic intervention, emergency interventions, and preparation for an inter-facility transport.
  • Collaborate with other members of the team, including drivers, coworkers, leadership, other healthcare partners and customers.
  • Assess and detect changes in the status of patients and demonstrate a proactive approach to solving patient and family problems.
  • Plan, organize and position equipment and supplies for use in emergency conditions before, during and after transport.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records, complete all transport documentation by the communicated deadline, participate in quality assurance programs, perform data collection and participate in any special projects.
  • Maintain clinical proficiency across all aspects of the scope of practice including care of patients with neurological emergencies, cardiac emergencies, pediatric emergencies, obstetrical emergencies, traumatic emergencies, and any other patient populations outlined in the program mission.
  • Perform all physical requirements of job in confined spaces and under adverse environmental conditions.
  • Complete transports initiated within the timeframe of the scheduled shift, understanding that completion of these transports might require extend beyond scheduled work hours.
  • Participation in all required didactic, clinical and lab education programs and maintenance of all required certifications and licenses.
  • Maintain clinical competency in scope of practice appropriate procedures and equipment, including but not limited to ventilators, IV pumps, dopplers, chest tubes, ventricular assist devices, and advanced airway management.
  • Able to assist in the Emergency Department at West Chester Hospital.
  • Participates in the hospital's Emergency Operations Plan during disaster situations.
  • Communicates with various departments in a cooperative manner.
  • Performs quick registration of patients.
  • Effectively communicates to patients and families.
  • Ordering, stocking, and cleaning assigned area.
  • Maintains specialty carts.
  • Complete and maintain currency in all areas of safety education as required.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with all external and internal customers, including patients and their families, hospital staff, the community, other ambulance staff and administration.
  • Assures a safe patient care environment.
  • Communicates pertinent patient information.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills and involvement in problem solving.
  • Maintains patient's needs for privacy and confidentiality during all communication.
  • Adheres to all hospital policies.
  • Ensures that work areas are organized, clean and present a safe, effective and efficient environment for self, patients and other colleagues.
  • Conducts daily operations in a safe manner.
  • Participates in transport team's daily safety briefing.
  • Successfully demonstrates knowledge of safe emergency vehicle operations/emergency egress operations and other state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrates and promotes safe driving while operating UC Health vehicles (ambulances, staff car).
  • Represents Air Care and Mobile Care and UC Health in a professional manner.
  • Remains current and active in the paramedic field and/or the medical transport industry.
  • Has a concept of self-development, recognizes the need for professional growth and takes the appropriate steps toward meeting educational needs.
  • Seeks on-going professional development through participation in patient care conferences, professional committees, in-services, and continuing education activities above minimal requirements for licensure/certification renewals.
  • Identifies and assumes responsibility for learning needs and if needed complete applicable clinical rotations or clinical experiences to ensure clinical competency.
  • Remains current in all required job specific licensures, certifications and competencies.
  • Willingly explores as well as accepts and implements new industry standards in order to strive for higher quality outcomes.
  • Contributes to the growth of peers by sharing their own knowledge, experience and skills.
  • Educates healthcare professionals and other customers regarding the operation of the transport program (includes orienting new associates as assigned).
  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • One year of Emergency Medical Service experience as a Paramedic preferred.
  • Military medical/paramedicine experience considered.
  • Intra-facility transport experience preferred.
  • Current Ohio Paramedic certification required, National Registry preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required upon hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within initial probationary period.
  • Approved Trauma Life Support course.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) to be obtained within probationary period.
  • FEMA 100, 200 courses within initial probationary period.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or its equivalency must be obtained within probationary period.
  • Active, unrestricted Driver's License with no more than 4 accrued points.
