About The Position

This appointment will be in the 2026-2027 Transplant Nephrology Fellowship Program. This position will provide a broad-based experience in all aspects of kidney transplantation including inpatient and outpatient care of transplant patients. Incumbent will also participate in the Department of Medicine, Nephrology Division journal club activities and continuing professional education activities. There is a possibility this position could be extended for one additional year, for a total maximum of two years. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Requirements

  • 2 years of general nephrology fellowship completed before the start of the Transplant Nephrology fellowship required.
  • MD - Physician - State Licensure Required
  • Wisconsin Medical License required before start date.
  • Board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine by the start date.
  • MD or DO, or equivalent required

Responsibilities

  • Six months of inpatient rotation on the transplant nephrology service
  • Five months of outpatient rotation in the transplant nephrology clinic
  • Two weeks in the histocompatibility tissue typing laboratory
  • Collaborate with transplant surgeons to provide patient co-management throughout the perioperative and outpatient periods for both deceased donor and living donor transplant recipients.
  • Manage medical care for kidney and pancreas transplant recipients
  • Perform renal replacement therapy and central venous hemodialysis catheter placement as needed
  • Participate in weekly Nephrology Grand Rounds, presenting one session, and deliver transplant fellows' core curriculum lectures and one journal club session
  • Present one abstract at a national conference and publish one manuscript
  • Attend Transplant Surgery Grand Rounds and journal club, weekly donor selection and Luminex meetings, and weekly recipient selection meetings
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows while on service
