About The Position

The Transmission System Operator Trainee is responsible for the real-time actions and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System. This position involves monitoring and controlling Eversource's Electric Transmission System continuously during both normal and emergency conditions to ensure safe, reliable, and economic operations. The operator issues clearances and switching orders, directs the tagging of transmission equipment, and manages the restoration of the transmission system following major outages, load shedding, or blackouts. Utilizing Energy Management System (EMS) software, the operator evaluates transmission system reliability and develops appropriate action plans. Communication and coordination of transmission system activities and conditions with ISO-NE, other Control Centers, and Eversource personnel are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of utility transmission system design, operations, maintenance, and construction principles.
  • Ability to use Energy Management System Software and interpret results.
  • Proficiency in PC desktop applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline plus five years of relevant experience, OR Associate's Degree plus seven years of experience, OR a minimum of nine years of relevant experience.
  • Must successfully pass Transmission Operator Assessment.
  • Must complete NERC Certified System Operator Examination and obtain NERC Transmission Operator Certification within six months of employment.
