About The Position

WSP is seeking a Transmission Project Manager for our Power & Energy Program Management Team. This position will be based out of St. Louis, MO. You must have the ability to travel to a WSP and/or Client office for periodic face-to-face meetings. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing technical, schedules, quality, and financial aspects of Power and Energy Transmission Line and Substation projects, managing and developing client relationships. THIS OPPORTUNITY Provides project management leadership for the development, execution, management, control, and monitoring of Power Delivery projects, including electric transmission, distribution, and substation infrastructure. Ensures responsibilities across the full project lifecycle—proposal development, planning and project startup, project execution, reporting, and project closeout—are delivered, governed, and audited in alignment with corporate standards and client expectations. This position is accountable for technical execution, schedules (CPM), financial performance, quality, safety, and client satisfaction on projects of moderate size, complexity, and regional scope. This role applies established project management practices to deliver consistent project outcomes while supporting company, regional, and business line objectives within a dynamic utility and Power Delivery environment. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction/Project Management, Physical Sciences, other related field within the Power & Energy Market.
  • 7-10 years of relevant post education experience. Experience supporting or managing transmission, distribution, substation, or utility capital projects.
  • Familiarity with financial analysis tools in a utility setting.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Schedule Management (this includes experience with CPM project schedules such as Primavera P6 or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of the Power Delivery project lifecycle from proposal through closeout.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to assess cost, schedule, and risk impacts.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to work independently while providing guidance and oversight to junior project managers and technical staff.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), and project management tools.
  • Proven commitment to workplace health, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to adapt to project‑specific schedules, with occasional travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project planning activities including initiation, engineering coordination, procurement support, construction execution, commissioning, energization, and closeout.
  • Manage project implementation including scope, schedule, budget, forecasting, earned value, and assigned resources.
  • Oversee and monitor cross‑functional project teams executing transmission, distribution, and substation projects, including engineers, designers, project controls, and support staff.
  • Maintain responsibility for tracking hours, expenses, material and equipment costs, deliverables, compliance documentation, and fulfillment of contractual requirements.
  • Establish the appropriate level of technical, constructability, and design review required for each project, ensuring compliance with QA/QC programs, utility standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support development of project proposals, including scope definition, cost estimates, schedules, execution strategies, and resource plans.
  • Develop and maintain project controls tools including Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), cost‑loaded schedules, forecasts, and risk registers.
  • Coordinate with Project Accounting and Finance to monitor project performance, including cost performance, cash flow, invoicing, accounts receivable, unbilled revenue, and estimated time‑to‑completion.
  • Provide regular project reporting to clients and internal stakeholders, identifying emerging risks, scope changes, schedule impacts, and budget variances.
  • Identify, communicate, and escalate health and safety incidents, regulatory concerns, and significant project issues to leadership in accordance with corporate governance requirements.
  • Coordinate with area, technical, and resource managers to address staffing, subcontracting, and specialty support needs.
  • Participate in problem project reviews and recovery efforts, providing input on root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Lead formal project closeout activities including financial closeout, documentation turnover, client acceptance, and lessons‑learned sessions.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct, in alignment with WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
