About The Position

The Journeyman Lineman (transmission) is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance & repair of overhead electrical transmission systems. This position works in various locations/requires travel to other states depending on customer needs.

Requirements

  • 5-years minimum recent field experience.
  • Able to obtain a CDL within 90 days of employment (preferred already obtained).
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Able to work overtime frequently & travel long distances.
  • Able to read/write & communicate effectively.
  • Must have acceptable MVR/background.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen & adhere to Company drug policy throughout employment.
  • Capable of taking & following directions.
  • Capable of conducting a pre-job or tailgate briefing effectively.
  • Work as a team member.
  • Meet E-Verification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely on new construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized/de-energized transmission systems.
  • Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches & switchgear.
  • Replace fuses in transformers & clear the faulted circuits/systems.
  • Complete the installation & hookup of a single-phase transformer.
  • Lead a crew in assembly & erection of structures.
  • Perform basic bucket rescue.
  • String overhead wire.
  • Set poles & anchors.
  • Work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill & care.
  • Troubleshoot problems on transmission systems.
  • Proficient in all aspects of transmission linework.
  • Properly sag wire.
  • Understand how to properly phase out a line using phasing sticks.
  • Identify transmission primary & secondary voltage on a circuit.
  • Safely install & remove mechanical jumpers.
  • Obtain knowledge of hot stick work on energized lines.
  • Understand dead ending & sagging operations for all conductors.
  • Understand grounding procedures, minimum approach distances, excavation & shoring requirements.
  • Use Kellum grips appropriately.
  • Flag & tag procedures.
  • Obtain a one shot on a recloser.
  • Familiar with various types of materials used in linework.
  • Execute hot line work on conductor systems.
  • Identify & locate puller & tensioner setups.
  • Obtain knowledge in bare hand work- 44Kv & 500Kv.
  • Familiar with induced voltage.
  • Climb various structures (wood, steel, etc.) and have the tools to do so.
  • Operate digger derrick proficiently.
  • Perform heavy lifting & rigging.
  • Complete all required safety training & understand DOT and OSHA standards.
  • Maintain company vehicles/equipment/tools in good working order.
  • Function well in a high-paced & at times stressful environment.
  • Perform all other related work as required to complete the job in its entirety.
