About The Position

Alpha 3 is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer with education and experience in transmission line engineering, structural analysis, and electrical principles to support high voltage transmission projects from conceptual through detailed design. This is a full-time position with a hybrid work schedule. Three days per week (typically Tuesday–Thursday) are expected to be in the office and two days per week from home. Preferred office location Elkridge, MD. Other locations may be available, depending on the candidate’s qualifications.

Requirements

Undergraduate degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program
Three (3) or more years of relevant transmission line engineering experience
Proficiency with PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE
In-depth knowledge of transmission line engineering principles including structures, conductors, and foundations
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and standards used to produce technical drawings and models
Experience with transmission line calculations including sag, clearance, grounding, and loading
Familiarity with industry codes and standards such as NESC and IEEE
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively on a team and manage multiple projects
Ability to understand, incorporate, and respond to design feedback
Ability to adapt to varying client standards and procedures
Strong personal time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
High attention to detail and commitment to quality work products
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Ability to provide technical support and participate in design reviews

Responsibilities

Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range.
Perform structural analysis and design of pole, lattice, framed, and guyed structures.
Perform foundation designs.
Perform conductor selection studies, shielding, grounding, and induction studies.
Develop cost estimates and schedules and prepare specifications for the procurement of transmission line materials and construction.
Specify transmission line components.
Model transmission lines in PLS-CADD, determine right of way requirements, calculate conductor sags, and develop transmission line plan and profile drawings.
Review vendor submittals.
