About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Transmission Line Engineer for our Hailey, ID office. This opportunity will be involved in projects with our Power Delivery Denver Line Team and to be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. This Opportunity In this role, you will support and execute the engineering, analysis, and design of high voltage overhead transmission lines, working under the guidance of experienced engineers within WSP’s Power & Energy business. You will participate in project execution, field coordination, and technical development tasks essential to safe and reliable transmission line design. Your Impact As a Transmission Line Engineer, you will: Technical Design & Analysis Assist with PLSCADD modeling for line layout, spotting, and structure analysis. Prepare design calculations for structures, foundations, conductor systems, and line components. Support the development of plan & profile drawings, structure loading trees, material lists, and construction packages. Evaluate route constraints, design criteria, clearances, terrain conditions, and reliability requirements. Support QA/QC processes for drawings, calculations, and deliverables. Project Support & Coordination Prepare engineering reports, permit exhibits, and cost estimates. Participate in internal design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination (civil, environmental, substation, geotechnical). Perform occasional field reviews or site visits to support engineering validations. Professional Growth & Collaboration Engage in career development tools including Career Compass and mentorship programs. Collaborate with cross functional teams and contribute to a culture of safety, integrity, and technical excellence. Complete training on assigned tasks. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with the process and concepts for design/build.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
  • Strong interest in transmission line engineering and electric utility infrastructure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without need for future sponsorship.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training/Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certification.
  • Transmission or distribution construction or engineering experience.
  • Previous consulting or utility experience.
  • A member of and/or active participation in local professional practice organizations.
  • Coursework in structural analysis, steel/wood/concrete design, foundations, soils, surveying, or power systems.
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or MATHCAD.
