About The Position

The Transmission Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, analysis, and support of high-voltage electric transmission systems. This role collaborates closely with internal engineering teams, utilities, and project stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective transmission solutions in compliance with regulatory and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required or ability to obtain.
  • 2–7+ years of transmission line engineering experience (level dependent).
  • Working knowledge of transmission design standards and codes.
  • Proficiency with industry software (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, AutoCAD, GIS tools).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience working directly with utility clients.
  • Familiarity with ERCOT or regional utility standards.
  • Experience with renewable interconnections or system upgrades.
  • Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze overhead and underground transmission lines (typically 69kV–345kV+).
  • Perform line routing, structure spotting, and loading calculations.
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings, equipment specifications, technical bid summaries, and technical reports.
  • Conduct electrical, structural, and thermal analyses using industry software tools.
  • Coordinate with substation, distribution, protection, and construction teams.
  • Support permitting, environmental, and right-of-way considerations.
  • Provide construction support, including responding to RFIs and field issues.
  • Ensure compliance with NESC, IEEE, NERC, and utility standards.
  • Assist with cost estimates, schedules, and project documentation.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and quality assurance processes.
