About The Position

Transmission Analyst: This position will be responsible for providing ­ analysis and management of the physical and financial transmission rights of members and service customers with responsibility for several portfolios in multiple markets. The Transmission Analyst will coordinate their work and analysis with several ACES departments including trading, portfolio modeling, scheduling, and regulatory. The analyst will be a key point of contact with members and customers whose portfolio they manage. This position requires an entrepreneurial mindset along with a strong understanding of economic fundamentals and work ethic. This role will be required to meet frequent member, customer, and market deadlines. The analyst’s time will be divided approximately as follows: 40% trading, 50% analytical work, 10% consulting work. Transmission Engineer: This position will be selected and assigned to an on-the-job training program in the Transmission Services Group while providing technical detail and support to the Transmission Analysts in relation to model(s) set up, data mining, report writing, trade verification and participation in industry training. This position will also use the provided training to become more involved in consulting work and everyday trade strategies for members and customers. The Transmission Engineer I will also be responsible for providing support and answering questions relating to the physical operation of the transmission grid. The Engineer’s time will be divided approximately as follows: 30% trading, 50% engineering, 20% consulting work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in related discipline with experience in the electric utility industry including energy commodities and physical markets.
  • Knowledge of the transmission system and LMP based markets.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and familiarity with ACES systems. Programming experience is a plus.
  • High degree of analytical ability, mathematics and technical concepts to analyze situation needs and deliver solutions.
  • Organized, dependable, able to prioritize tasks, and a team player willing to work in a group environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiar with the industry’s operating procedures and requirements regarding interconnected regions (NERC).
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering.
  • 1+ years of experience in energy industry.
  • Knowledge of high voltage electric transmission system from coursework.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise strong reasoning, analytical and decision-making skills.

  • 3+ years of experience in energy industry.
  • Knowledge of high voltage electric transmission system from coursework.
  • Proficiency in maintaining and running SCED model.
  • Working knowledge of PC’s.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel and Word; power flow modeling experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise strong reasoning, analytical and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Candidate will be responsible for managing physical and financial transmission related services for participating members and service customers.
  • Perform and review statistical analyses of FTR/CRR/TCR and congestion data.
  • Review and support the annual and monthly FTR/CRR/TCR report process.
  • Provide the ACES trading groups with physical and financial transmission support for both pool and non-pool members; including submitting OASIS requests, analysis and/or recommendations on transmission positions, seams issues related to ISO/RTO operations
  • Assists in the assembling and analyzing of power marketing intelligence relating to structured markets and transmission.
  • Involved in the ongoing developments regarding the transmission industry, including committees, conferences and training.
  • Will coordinate their work and analysis with several ACES departments including trading, structuring, scheduling, and regulatory and will be a key point of contact with each ACES member and customer.
  • Manage multiple ongoing tasks and projects with the ability to prioritize.
  • Demonstrate a self-directed work ethic.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with team members and business associates.

  • Adheres to and is supportive of all ACES corporate policies and complies with all regulatory requirements including but not limited to NERC, FERC and relevant state regulations as applicable to the position

  • Preparation of transmission model data for U.S. and Canadian bulk power grid, including maintaining and updating grid models across all markets
  • Provide electrical engineering expertise to the group to answer internal team questions and external customer questions
  • Support transmission analysts in converting knowledge of the physical grid infrastructure to commercial hedging decisions in all wholesale electricity markets that ACES participates in
  • Contribute to studies analyzing proposed high-voltage transmission corridors
  • Follow and collect data on the transmission planning efforts across all markets in which ACES participates
  • Become educated on the financial aspects of the market and how they interact with the technical aspects of the industry
  • Be an active participant in monthly auctions across all ISOs
  • Utilize the physical transmission portal data to better enhance ACES day-to-day modeling practices
  • Utilize the ISO model data to better enhance the ACES day-to-day modeling practices
  • Develop knowledge of ACES processes to become an active participant in on-going consulting work
  • Render wholesale electricity price forecasting, and project revenue analysis
  • Conduct integrated assessment of the power markets to provide support for power project developers and asset managers
  • Conduct asset and portfolio valuation and power market analysis using both structural and statistical analytical approaches
  • Evaluate existing and planned generating capacity additions to determine the supply and maintain system reliability
  • Contribute to consulting studies where needed
