The Parent Outreach Translator will play a crucial role in bridging communication between non-English speaking parents and the school district. This position involves interpreting verbal communications and translating written documents to ensure that parents receive essential information from the School and District staff. The translator will work directly with Non-English Language Background (NELB) parents in assigned schools, providing assistance in person, over the phone, and via email. This role is vital in fostering an inclusive environment where all parents can engage with their children's education and school activities. In addition to direct communication with parents, the translator will assist school administration with various tasks, including interpreting at Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and translating school-specific documents. The translator will also help parents navigate the Grade Speed system and participate in home visits alongside other Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) employees. A significant aspect of this role is to enhance parent participation in school events by proactively reaching out to families through letters, phone calls, and emails. The translator will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, including updating Emergency Card information and ensuring that contact details for families are current. Coordination with the English Learner (EL) Office is essential, as the translator will keep a work schedule, log hours, and maintain an updated calendar for the supervisor. Building rapport with international families is also a key responsibility, as it helps create a welcoming atmosphere within the school community.
