About The Position

Seeking a Transition Student Support Specialist for transition programming for students with disabilities between the ages of 18 - 21 years old at work and within the community setting. This position provides individualized and/or small group support in the transition classroom at Colorado Mountain College, as well as on the job and throughout the community.

Requirements

  • Substitute authorization or the ability to obtain one, or an active teacher license issued by the State of Colorado.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction and reinforce academic subjects, vocational, and community skills.
  • Provide instruction and reinforcement across a variety of settings (CMC classrooms, community settings, and job locations).
  • May provide vocational skills by modeling and assisting students with domestic and clerical duties.
  • Assess student work when appropriate and time permits.
  • Supervise students on and off school grounds during activities such as field trips or community work.
  • Job coach young adults in the transition program to find and maintain employment.
  • Work with employers to ensure that job requirements are met.
  • Provide on-site vocational support to help students adjust to the workplace and the routine of getting to and from work.
  • Under the direction of the special education teacher, provide instruction and support to help students meet their post-secondary goals.
  • Assist in the event of life-threatening behavior or severe health crisis for medically fragile students, handle body fluids, and assist with feeding.
  • Prepare lesson plans as directed by the supervising teacher.
  • Maintain a daily record of student behavior.
  • Provide observations, opinions, and feedback to professional staff.
  • Perform other clerical duties such as typing, filing, copying, answering phones, ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory of forms and supplies.
  • Use instructional equipment, including computers, audiovisual equipment, and adaptive equipment.
  • Attend staff, team meetings, and parent conferences when appropriate.
  • Clean rooms after projects and at the end of the day.
  • Act as a substitute teacher in emergency situations.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all student information.
  • Perform other duties assigned.
