About The Position

Program and Role Summary Wayfinder’s Transition Services program works with teenagers and young adults ages 16 to 25 from across California who are blind or visually impaired explore careers and successfully transition to independent living, college, or the workforce. Participants learn assistive technology, independent living, and orientation and mobility (white cane and safe travel) skills. They participate in college-access activities, develop leadership skills, learn job-seeking skills and increase their independence. The program offers weekend workshops and a four-week, in-person summer program in classrooms and dorms on the Cal State Los Angeles campus. The primary focus on the Transition Services Coordinator, is responsible for lesson plan development, outreach, and supervision of staff, including seasonal and on-call staff for Transition Services programming at the regional level. This is a part-time position budgeted for 20 hours/week, with a varied schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the field of education and/or rehabilitation and the field providing services to youth and/or the visually impaired required.
  • Two (2) years of managing department and supervising staff.
  • Familiarity with standards and legal and regulatory aspects of vocational and educational services for the blind and visually impaired.
  • Valid California Driver’s License with a minimum of three (3) years of good driving history and must be approved by the agency’s insurance carrier to drive agency vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification program or degree in a vision-related field such as Orientation & Mobility, VRT, Teacher for the Visually Impaired or Low Vision Specialist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works with department staff and supervisor to make recommendations and implement the annual program budget and ensure good stewardship of funds.
  • Ensures the program is effective by distributing and accurately tracking and reporting outreach evaluations at events for clients to measure the relevancy of the services provided.
  • Manages the work of program personnel in planning and program development, ensuring the tracking and quantifying of program outcomes and measures.
  • Ensures and maintains compliance with regulatory agencies; will be point-of-contact in regulatory agency authorized audits.
  • Receives and responds to all inquiries into the program and related services.
  • Plans transportation needs and provides transportation to facilitate client engagement in programming.
