About the position

The Transit Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and developing safety policies and programs to ensure compliance with safety procedures for personnel, equipment, and facilities within Broward County Transit. This role involves providing direction and guidance to staff, advising on safety compliance matters, and implementing safety training and inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and guidance to agency staff and contractors to establish a culture of safety.
  • Advise the Safety Director on safety compliance matters and preventative actions.
  • Plan, develop, recommend, and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and present safety training to employees and stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain reports, training records, and track safety metrics and trends.
  • Conduct periodic safety inspections and safety meetings, including accident reviews.
  • Respond to incidents, conduct post-accident investigations, and prepare reports.
  • Update and coordinate various safety programs and plans, including emergency action and evacuation plans.
  • Investigate accidents and Workers' Compensation injuries to determine preventability.
  • Represent Broward County Transit in safety meetings and conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, security management, law enforcement, or a closely related field.
  • Six years of experience in a law enforcement agency or security services.
  • Three years of management or closely related experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.

  • OSHA 30 Hr. Certification
  • FTA Project Safety Certification
  • Master's Degree or higher in a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in a union environment
  • 3+ years of experience with safety regulations and standards
  • 3+ years of experience with NTD, FTA, or other transportation-related experience.
