About The Position

The Transit Operations Clerk is responsible for scheduling, routing, and dispatching transportation and paratransit services, particularly for individuals with disabilities. This role involves operating communication equipment, maintaining computerized driver manifests, and providing information to passengers and drivers. The clerk ensures that transportation needs are met efficiently within the Duke community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • One year of related experience in transportation or dispatching.
  • Operational planning, communication, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with scheduling and routing software.
  • Familiarity with ADA transportation services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation and paratransit dispatching and routing services daily.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling transportation routes for campus and medical center.
  • Monitor bus routes to ensure schedule integrity and community needs are met.
  • Create, maintain, and monitor computerized daily manifests and schedules.
  • Update schedules daily and coordinate with management to cover open runs.
  • Monitor bus route tracking systems and two-way radios for operational issues.
  • Perform clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and maintaining records.
  • Provide transportation information and quality customer service to passengers.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by management.
