About The Position

Under general supervision of the Assistant City Manager, oversees the operation of the City of St. George transit system. The Transit Manager provides leadership and strategic oversight of the City of St. George's public transit system, SunTran. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and reliable transit services that meet the evolving needs of the community. The position requires a forward-thinking approach to guide the system through growth, modernization, and improvements while continuing to deliver excellent service. The Transit Manager will collaborate with internal teams, local stakeholders, and external agencies, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, and driving the future direction of the transit system.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, public planning, transportation planning, or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public transit and/or public transportation operations, including at least three (3) years in a high level supervisory or management role.
  • Possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the Transit Superintendent, Advertising Manager, and Grants Program Manager.
  • Oversee the overall operation of SunTran, ensuring the efficient delivery of services in alignment with community needs and long-term objectives.
  • Administer federal and state transit grants, ensuring compliance with all funding regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and administer the annual budget for the Transit Division, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources and alignment with city priorities.
  • Lead, manage and partner with other city departments on capital investments and improvement projects related to the city's public transit system.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of transit services to ensure reliability, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead the exploration and implementation of new technologies and service models that improve the efficiency, reliability and accessibility of transit services.
  • Represent SunTran and the Transit Division in meetings with local businesses, government officials, community groups, and the public.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
