About The Position

The City of Phoenix Public Transit Department is seeking an experienced grants accounting and budget professional to assist the team in the management of Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grants. The City of Phoenix is the designated and/or direct recipient of FTA grant funds for the region. The Public Transit Grants team currently manages over 50 active FTA and other federal grants with a $2.1 billion budget. Additionally, Public Transit submits FTA grant applications on behalf of non-profit subrecipients, transit agencies, municipalities, and other City departments. The team also administers, monitors, and audits grant activities for federal compliance, and tracks grant funds, budgets, and expenditures using the City's financial system, SAP, a grant management system, and Excel spreadsheets. The position is currently in the Public Transit Department's Grant Programs section under the Assistant Director's Office. This position works with a Grants Accountant III, a Lead Federal Grant Accountant (IV), and works under the direction of a Federal Grants Administrator (Special Projects Administrator). This position also works closely with various departments, Finance, regional agency staff, FTA staff, and external customers.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in governmental budgetary and finance activities.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, statistics, or related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a city vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
