About The Position

This entry level semi-skilled manual position is responsible for a variety of projects related to the County's public transit fleet and transit facility. Reporting to the Chief, Fleet & Facility Administration, assignments include working with the County's fleet department to administer the fleet maintenance of the County's paratransit and administrative vehicles. The incumbent will work with third-party vendors to ensure completion of repairs and inspections of transit equipment. This position will conduct daily lot checks to assist County transit operators with troubleshooting and addressing minor mechanical issues and interact with vendors to update vehicle specifications and equipment purchases and inventories, including associated program management.

Requirements

  • High school education.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the equipment repair and service field on a variety of light, medium or heavy motorized equipment, vehicles or fire and rescue apparatus.

  • Possess, maintain and submit a copy of Class 'B' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with airbrake endorsement and a copy of current DOT physical certification card at the time of offer.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with oversight of fleet and facility maintenance activities and develops and maintains transit asset management plan, including bus fare equipment.
  • Liaises and works with internal and external vendors to update vehicle specifications and bid packages and prepares vehicle and equipment purchases and inventories for the purpose of program management.
  • Works with third-party vendors to resolve vehicle inspection defects, farebox equipment observation and reporting, distribution, and processing of vehicle citations and tickets.
  • Maintains fleet inventory, monthly maintenance, and operation reports and assists with vehicle specifications with special emphasis on the collection of vehicle information for Transit Fleet Administration.
  • Leads the preparation of bid specifications for transit vehicles, supplies, and services, coordinates fleet repairs, and conducts scheduled gate checks.
  • Reviews and updates fleet and equipment warranties annually.
  • Coordinates bid, delivery, and inspection of vehicles by internal and external partners as appropriate.
  • Develops, maintains, and updates vehicle replacement schedules for transit programs.
  • Maintains and updates vehicle inventory for transit fleet (including fareboxes, radios, and other ancillary bus equipment).
  • Maintains vehicle disposition records; prepares necessary related correspondence and records including annual transit asset management plan.
  • Research, develops and executes transit procurement opportunities such as fareboxes, radios, display boards, and destination signs, software, and hardware.
  • Tracks repairs to vehicle damage and confirms repairs are made.
  • Secures insurance payments due to the County and maintains accurate records of receipt and posting to correct accounts.
  • Performs other related duties and tasks which may not be specifically listed in the job description, but which are within the occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.
