We are recruiting to fill a Transit Facilities Specialist, Lead position to join the Facilities Maintenance Department, located in Lakewood, WA. This classification is the second level position in the facilities maintenance job series. The individual selected for this position will have a background that includes similar work. They may have done maintenance, janitorial, custodial and/or grounds keeping for a residential facility or in a commercial/industrial setting. This person will be mechanically adept and very comfortable with basic hand tools and power tools. They will be looking for a career with a future, one that has a lot of variety, and one that allows them to be out in the fresh air on a frequent basis while accomplishing job tasks. They will be a fan of our Northwest weather and will not let it get in the way. The Transit Facilities Specialist, Lead is relied on to do a lot of important work here at Pierce Transit including (but not limited to): Assembling, installing and maintaining the bus shelters and amenities located throughout our service area. Performing routine custodial services in and around buildings. Supporting the work of the Facilities Maintenance Mechanics as needed. Assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance and providing coaching and training. Using their own judgment to accomplish their work in a productive, efficient and safe manner. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: In addition to performing the full range of duties associated with the Transit Facilities Specialist classification, employees are distinguished by the performance of lead duties including assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance and providing coaching, training and planning. In addition, this person would back fill for an assistant manager when asked by the Facilities Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience in related custodial work, grounds keeping and facilities maintenance.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver license with acceptable driving record throughout employment.
  • Clearance is required prior to accessing Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). Employees in this classification are subject to recurring background checks conducted by JBLM.
  • Knowledge of: The proper use of all hand tools, electrical and gasoline powered tools; proper leveling and securing techniques.
  • Care and use of mops, brooms, scrub brushes, power scrubbers and sweepers, dusters, vacuum cleaners, floor polishing machines and gardening tools; care and use of cleaning materials such as soaps, powders, wax strippers, polishes, waxes, and graffiti removers.
  • Ability to: Work well in a team environment; understand and follow oral or written instructions, learn all equipment operations; perform computerized work order methods and procedures; pass a job-related examination; drive all job-related vehicles and equipment and maintain a valid WA State driver's license and other licenses and certifications as required.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year of experience in a leadership capacity providing counseling or advising of staff; planning, overseeing, and reviewing work.
  • Training experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and schedules work assignments for Transit Facilities Specialist employees.
  • Observes work in progress, or upon completion, to determine compliance with established work standards for safety, quality, and quantity.
  • Provides on the job instruction and correction to employees when needed.
  • Consult with the Facilities Assistant Manager and Facilities Manager when counseling and/or identified training is needed for employees
  • Assembles, installs, maintains and removes shelters and amenities to include crane operation, installing glass panels and cutting plexi-glass as required.
  • Installs and replaces ride guides, seats, bike racks, benches and trash-cans.
  • Mixes and pours concrete, digs postholes, installs and replaces route signs, poles and manufactured low voltage electrical devices at bus stops.
  • Repairs potholes at bus stops; removes broken glass and safety hazards from bus stops.
  • Performs minor repairs on sinks, toilets, doors and windows.
  • Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes in buildings and shelters; performs minor electrical repairs.
  • Manufactures, installs and maintains signage at bus stops and other facilities.
  • Prepares and paints shelters, structures, shop equipment, curbs and crosswalks.
  • Pressure washes structures, shelters, and pavement.
  • Operates lot sweeper and cleans up oil spills.
  • Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies; dusts and cleans offices and lunchrooms.
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs and polishes floors; washes windows, woodwork, and walls.
  • Moves furniture and equipment as requested.
  • Cleans walkways and grounds adjacent to buildings and ensures that rubbish, weeds and wastepaper are removed.
  • Removes snow and ice; spreads sand as required.
  • Performs traffic control (flagging) duties.
  • Cleans sludge from catch basins and oil/water separators.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • May assist Maintenance Mechanic in major electrical, carpentry, plumbing, roofing, and welding repairs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
