Explore a career with A & Associates, one of the leading providers for temporary, temp-to-hire, permanent placement services and security guard services GENERAL SUMMARY: Performs skilled work in the safe and efficient operations of a passenger bus or vehicle for the primary purpose of driving passengers around the area in a fixed or flexible schedule as circumstances dictate. Work may include the receipt and disposition of citizen inquiries with respect to services, and the performance of safety checks prior to vehicle operation. Work involves assisting passengers as they step on and off the bus, considerable contact with the public and requires the exercise of tact, judgment, and diplomacy. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general direction of a supervisor and performance is reviewed through discussions, observation, analysis of work product, and evaluation of results achieved.

Requirements

  • Updated FDOT physical.
  • CPR Certificate
  • DOT 5 panel Drug screening
  • Uniform Black 3 button polo shirt & Black pants
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and no less than six (6) months of relevant experience operating a passenger bus or specialty vehicle; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
  • Required for Transit file are copies of Pre-employment Drug test per the System Safety Plan and a DMV check no older than 60 days.
  • Valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class “C” with “P” endorsement and air brakes or better, Standard Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification before operating buses.
  • Considerable knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, rules, driving courtesies, and the fundamentals of defensive driving.
  • Some knowledge of the Charlotte County Street system.
  • Ability to operate a passenger bus or similar type specialty vehicle and two-way radio communication equipment.
  • Ability to input information into a personal computer (tablet).
  • Ability to load, secure, and unload wheelchair clients.
  • Ability to remain calm and stay focused during stressful traffic situations and when dealing with irate clients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public as necessitated by the work.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a specialty type vehicle safely and efficiently in the transport of passengers along a fixed or flexible schedule as assigned.
  • Assists passengers as they step on and off the vehicle; ensures that all passengers are properly seated prior to movement of the vehicle; may carry packages and assist clients with safe entrance and exit of the vehicle.
  • Loads, secures, and unloads wheelchair clients safely and efficiently if needed.
  • Uses Data collection computer terminal provided in buses to record passenger counts, passenger mileages, fares, and other information as required.
  • Performs a pre-operating maintenance check including but not limited to re-fueling and cleaning, to ensure the safety of the vehicle and the security of its passengers.
  • Stays updated as to responsibilities under the System Safety Plan as amended
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Participates in emergency response and scheduled on call program.
