About the position
The Transfer Station Equipment Operator is responsible for the daily operations of the transfer station, including the County's slash/mulch program. This role involves operating various heavy equipment, performing maintenance on equipment, assisting the public with disposal options, and ensuring the transfer station remains clean and orderly. The position requires effective communication and customer service skills, as well as adherence to safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as roll-off trucks, semi-trucks, loaders, and excavators.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment and conduct pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Assist residents and the public with proper disposal options and provide direction as needed.
- Collect fees and document transactions according to office procedures.
- Screen vehicles for hazardous or unauthorized waste and advise residents on proper disposal options.
- Maintain cleanliness of the transfer station work area and assist in snow removal as needed.
- Monitor deliveries and verify compliance with posted regulations.
- Open and close transfer site entrances each day of operation.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Colorado Driver's License without restrictions.
- Minimum of a Class B CDL with air brake endorsements; Class A CDL preferred.
- Flagger Certification in Colorado or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
- FEMA ICS 100 and 700 certifications within six months of employment.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Acceptable documentation of equipment and/or tandem experience.
